Let’s face it, most site owners want to understand how to rank high in Google and the other engines. To do it you’ll either be required to learn SEO (search engine optimization) or bring in a techie to do it for you.

Search engine optimization sounds like a formidable thing to get the hang of and while the mole hole does go very deep with what seems like unbounded complexities, it’s actually quite easy to get a hang of the basics.

As it happens the basics are all you require to get your website soaring up into the upper ranks of the SERPS (search engine results pages) with all the advantages that brings.

Any high ranking site owner will tell you that a top position on Google can totally flood your site with users all eager to discover what you can offer them. To achieve this we all must learn how to rank high in Google.

When you’re sitting pretty in Google the other search engines commonly follow suit, which is a favourable bonus.

The down and dirty details are beyond the scope of this article but at its simplest it comes down to two cheif factors.

1. On page factors.

2. Off page factors.

While #1 is necessary it is the off page elbow grease you do which will surely build your rankings. Off page optimization actually boils down to gaining links from other web sites.

The engines consider a link from one page to another as a vote. The more links which point at a page the more relevant that page is judged to be and the SERP position rises. Granted that is a very simplified breakdown but it’s the fundamentals of ranking.

There are many different types of link. Some work much better than others for ranking purposes. The greatest links you can bring in are in-context plain text links which have appropriate anchor text. Sound difficult? It’s not.

I’ve run out of rope in this article but if you want further info I’ll be pleased to provide you with a breakdown of your web site for a nominal fee. I’ll identify keywords you could be targeting and how to build in-context inbound hyperlinks focused on those keywords.
